Geert Maas
Internationally acclaimed artist Geert Maas works in two and three dimensions in a variety of media. His disciplines include sculpture, reliefs, medallic art and painting.
Maas was born in The Netherlands, where he attended the Academy of Art (Vrije Academie) and the Kijkduin Academy in The Hague, and was awarded diplomas for teaching applied art, painting and drawing. In 1979, Maas moved to Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, with his family. There, he and his wife Elly created the Geert Maas Sculpture Gardens and Gallery which feature one of the largest collections of bronze sculptures in Canada and a diverse selection of his other artwork. Among the wide range of art-related activities including curator, coordinator and project leader, Geert and Elly are frequently invited to give lectures, adjudicate exhibitions and guide art tours.
Geert Maas' skillful and inspired use of a wide range of materials marks him as one of Canada's most dynamic and versatile artists. His works have been shown in numerous exhibitions and are represented in prestigious public, corporate and private collections worldwide.
