Jan Crawford
Printmaker and ceramicist Jan Crawford was raised in Penticton but currently resides and teaches in Vancouver, BC. Crawford is an active member of the Malespina Printmakers Society, and a graduate of the Emily Carr College of Art and the University of British Columbia. Jan has exhibited in various solo and group exhibitions in the Pacific Northwest. In the Okanagan Valley, Crawford's work can be seen at the Manteo Beach Resort in Kelowna, the Penticton Lakeside Resort in Penticton and at the Hambleton Gallery in Kelowna. Jan's work is presently held in many corporate and private collections, many of her pieces have been done as commissions.
Her latest body of work "Re-labelling An Okanagan Identity" reincarnates some earlier works of nostalgia and memory seen in the orchard objects, but also investigates the regions shift from fruit bearing land to wine producing vinyards. In this exploration of the identity shift she questions how the re-labelling of the land will change who we are as a culture.
Jan's work is mostly monotypes which is a printmaking technique. Unlike most printmaking techniques only one print is pulled from the press, which makes each print as unique as a painting.
