Kenna is a 3rd generation Okanagan resident. Her grandparents immigrated from Poland and Hungary and settled in Kelowna over 80 years ago. Kenna was born in Vernon, grew up in Osoyoos and has lived in Kelowna for 20 years.
Kenna was encouraged from an early age by extremely creative and productive parents to make and appreciate art. She is primarily self-taught, adding to that, workshops, artist mentorship, home studies and art discussion and exhibition groups since the 80's. Kenna is the sister of accomplished glass artist Shelah Pansegrau, who lives on the neighboring farm.Their work is collected throughout BC, Alberta, and the Pacific Northwest. Devoting her life to art as well as a busy life with her husband and 3 daughters, Kenna adores her time outdoors in the mountain and water areas of the Valley during any and every season of the year.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Currently my work is travelling along the abstract landscape route, impressionist as well, very elemental with the emphasis on heat. Layered landscapes, vanishing points and atmospheric gestures suggesting where the land and sky meet. A slim horizon delineates the desert's deep haze of lush hues from the sky's inter-fusion of supernatural wonders; stars, comets, lightning, thunder and rain. Luxurious colour imbues the images with a greater essence so they come to life for us.
My rich and dramatic palette is enlightened from 44 summers in the Okanagan, especially growing up in Osoyoos during hot, hot summers when the lake, the desert and the sky were essential and all that mattered, I took notice. With waves of heat distorting the view almost anywhere you looked, and on occasion days of heat so intense a summer lightning and thunder storm could suddenly errupt.
The regalia, which is currently the border on the bottom of a majority of paintings is my mark, it emphasizes my work with the magic of my ideas which includes these thoughts. The number 3 is the great creative number, the number of the artist, musician, poet and mystic. The aspects of my 3 marks represent the energies that are present in my paintings. They are: Universality ~ to reach out and touch others. Individuality ~ my style, my choices and their effect and lastly, Suggestion ~ offering others to use their imagination.
