Lee Claremont
Lee Claremont was born in 1945 in Woodstock, Ontario of Mohawk and Irish ancestry.She now resides in the Okanagan Valley near Kelowna.Lee received a BFA from the Universtiy of British Columbia with honours and was accepted into a Masters programme.She teaches at a local college, mentors in many workshops and enjoys sharing her knowledge and love of art with others.With her multicultural background she has been able to create her own unique vision of a global village.
Claremont's work is rooted in her spiritual beliefs and offers us a unique vision of the sky above, the earth below and all that is in between. Lee' work is very contemporary but addresses thousands of years of spiritual beliefs and dreamtimes visions.Her bold, vibrant paintings reflect her love of colour and it's healing power.
Lee's work can be found in many corporate and private art collections throughout the world.Many of her paintings have sold in Europe. Her work has been exhibited locally, nationall and internationall and she has received many awards and recognition for her work.
Local Kelowna artist, Lee Claremont has been chosen to exhibit her work at the Woodlands Cultural Center in Brantford, Ontario in FIRST NATIONS ART 2003. The Center is well known throughout the world as a center of cultural excellence and integrity.Seventy artists were chosen from all over North America, of which Lee Claremont is one of them.Lee is tremendously honored and proud to be exhibiting with such prominent international artists. The exhibition ran until July 25, 2003.
In January of 2004, Lee was chosen to show her works with Norval Morrisseau in a show at the Art Gallery of the South Okanagan in Penticton.She was commissioned to paint a special mutal to honour Norval with dimensions of 12 feet high by 23 feet wide.Since then she had painted a mural for the Kelowna Art Gallery and has also been asked to be a n aritst in residence at the art gallery while her show has hung there.
