Rick Bond
Born in Victoria, B.C. Canada, Rick Bond grew up in the Gulf Islands off Vancouver Island. He attended Emily Carr Outreach Programs, Okanagan College, Federation of Canadian Artists workshops and MISSA at Pearson College in Victoria, B.C. for his training. Currently, Rick lives and paints in Vernon, B.C. Canada.
Rick's works have afforded him many awards over the years and he continues to exhibit his work at the Hambleton Gallery in Kelowna.
Originally painting in oils, Rick now works with watercolour and acrylic. His work has, over the years, been purchased for private and corporate collections across Canada, the United States and Europe. It has also been published in "Brushes in the Sun - Artists of the Okanagan" (Hemlock Press) and selected for national calendars, cards and advertising.
Rick describes his style as "primarily landscape or musical vignettes using simple impressionistic shapes". The look is loose and somewhat representational. He has travelled to New Orleans and recently spent five weeks exploring Haida Gwaii, finding the edges of the continent full of content for his brushes. He's been called a visionary and practical artist who tends to express himself in simple terms. His strokes are strong and his paintings always hold your attention with each moment spent revealing new points of communication.
Rick has a strong affiliation with the community being Past President of the Okanagan Artists League and the Vernon Community Arts Council and in 1999 achieved Signature status with the Federation of Canadian Artists.
Rick has had many group and solo exhibitions since 1985. Group shows have been held with the Okanagan Artists League members at the FCA Gallery in Vancouver, public galleries in Armstrong and Vernon and private galleries in Kelowna, Regina, Whistler and Vancouver. He has had solo shows in Vernon, Armstrong, Kelowna, Victoria and Vancouver.
Rick has been commissioned by the B.C. Pharmacists Society, the Okanagan Historical Society, Sunnyville Developments, Riverside Forest Products, Tolko Industries Ltd., The North Okanagan Regional District and the Silver Star World Cup (Nordic) and PPC Ltd. His work has been in the North Vancouver Credit Union Calendar, the Sabex Pharmaceuticals National Christmas card, the Farm Credit Corporation National Calendar and the cover of the North Okanagan Tourism Map/Guide.
Rick is also an active instructor specializing in watercolour and acrylics.
