Noémie L. Côté
Biography
Noémie Côté is an Ottawa-based artist whose landscape paintings are shaped by both memory and close observation of the natural world. Raised in Gatineau, she spent part of her childhood in Zimbabwe before returning to Canada as a teenager, an experience that left a lasting impression on her sensitivity to colour, light, and place. She studied in the visual arts program at Canterbury High School, graduating with honours, later completed a BFA in Ceramics at Concordia University, and went on to build a 23-year career in graphic design before turning her full attention to painting.
Working primarily in oil, Noémie is known for vibrant, heavily textured landscapes built with bold brushwork and a strong sense of movement. Her paintings are rooted in real places—often drawn from time spent outdoors, photography, and plein-air study—but they are less about exact description than about conveying the feeling of being there. Light, season, and atmosphere are central to her work, whether she is painting the quiet of snow, the intensity of autumn colour, or the warmth of late-day sun across water and trees.
